My husband and I decided to stop by the Ruby Mine on July 6th after having a refreshing and fantastic swim in Fontana Lake. The gentlemen working there was very friendly and informative. We took our daughters, ages 10 and 4, to the Ruby Mine and we all had fun! We bought a family bucket and we were all able to look stones.

Stopped here on our way out of time to give the kids a little hands on activity.the gentleman who helped us was extremely helpful and full of great information ,he took the time to tell us about all. Now they have 2 people there running it for them (the owners who were there when I had the good experience). They have gone WAY downhill.We went about 10 years ago and they were great. I visited Nantahala Gorge Ruby Mine initially back in 2016 during my road trip across the country. Moral of the story is do not book a cabin rental without seeing what you are renting because there are many other rental cabins much nicer for less money.It's my 2nd time here and I wasn't disappointed. Although the view from this cabin is outstanding it does not make up for the lack of maintenance on this rental. The bathroom needs a total renovation.vanity is beginning to rot.the towel bar next to the shower is rusting away.
The love seat (only place to sit) was old and uncomfortable the quarter round molding had been removed around the baseboard of the entire cabin which leaves a dirt mark continuous around the entire cabin. Carolina Vacation Lodging is convenient to the popular Nantahala River whitewater rafting, Nantahala Village Horseback Riding Stables, Nantahala River Gem Mine, Nantahala Gorge Ruby Mine, Great Smoky Mountains Scenic Railway, Cherokee Indian Reservation and Harrah's Cherokee Casino. We were told it was a rustic style cabin which would have Been fine but all the furnishings looked like they were from the 1960’s. We were told someone was in it at the time so we couldn’t enter. We didn’t see pictures of the inside of the cabin online so when we were there months ago we asked if we could see the cabin. We had looked on line and in person at this resort prior to booking. My wife and I planned a stay at cabin 23 for 4 nights Aug 15 thru Aug 19 for a total of $925.00. The lovely bartender they hired tried to help but couldn't find them but he was awesome! Also, no guard rails outside Bistro and there is a steep drop off and this is a serious safety risk for children and drinking adults! Wedding arch has lovely view, inside Bistro has nice floors and set up but I would suggest avoiding as a wedding venue. I had to run down our serving plates and forks myself. All that money and effort down the drain. Guests help find a box for the top layer of the cake as the bakery forgot but after all that worry the next morning the cake was not in the freezer. The guests actually helped move everything inside when it got too cold outside. That being said my son-in-law hired 4 servers from the venue tobserve, clear tables, set up etc. As for the wedding: the staff that showed up was was wonderful. Our room door did not lock, so we were fortunate all the guests that weekend were there for the wedding. In our room the microwave door was cracked, the lighting in the rooms was so fun we couldn't see and the Wi-Fi did not work at all. The roads are not out and many of the drop offs don't have rocks or fences blocking them. The lights on the outside of buildings don't work and pose a serious safety hazard at night due to steel stairs and cliff like drop offs. Simple things would really go a long way: the buildings are Not numbered or marked with addresses and the maps given by the desk are not helpful. We were there for my daughter s wedding 10/16/21 and the venue really needs some routine maintenance.
